UVic Libraries invites all UVic students, faculty and staff to participate in a contest to name the new café that will be opening on the main floor of the McPherson Library this fall as part of the Mearns Centre for Learning.
Please go to: http://gateway.uvic.ca/coffee between July 3rd and July 20th, 2007 to submit your suggestion(s). Participants may enter the contest as many times as they like.
The winning suggestion will be chosen by the University Librarian and a panel of judges.
The winner will receive a $50 HFCS card to spend at the new café and other Food Services locations on campus.
University of Victoria graduate students can now submit their theses and dissertations electronically and make them immediately available on the Web. This kind of open access gives UVic graduate student research global exposure.
Approximately 350 to 400 theses and dissertations will be posted in PDF format annually in UVic’s digital archive, UVicDSpace. As UVicDSpace grows, we plan to include faculty publications and research as well.
• Benefits:
- easy submission process for graduate students
- instant availability online through UVicDSpace
- instant availability online through Google Scholar, Google and the CARL Harvester
- instant availability online coming soon through Library and Archives Canada Theses Portal
- microfiche format as a preservation copy
- no need to print multiple copies for the Library
- no need for physical storage space
- wider sharing of research; thesis more frequently cited

During the fall exam period the building will be open:

This represents a 7% increase in hours for the summer session and a 9% increase for the fall session. These changes have come about as a result of user feedback, LibQual+ survey results and focus groups conducted by the Libraries. They have been made possible by funds from the Office of the Vice-President Academic and Provost for additional staffing coverage in the Loan Desk and Campus Copier units of Access and Branch Services.
