Danielle Russell, Special Collections, sends the following message:
Beginning August 31st and running until November 15th, the McPherson Library will hold “Mingling of Memory and Desire,” an exhibition focusing on Skelton’s poetry through featuring the books and papers of the late poet, editor and publisher, Robin Skelton. Focusing on Skelton’s poetry, the exhibit offers viewers a unique glimpse through manuscripts, correspondence, and other ephemera that highlight the milestones, associations and achievements of one of Victoria’s most colorful and influential literary figures. The exhibition will be on view in the lower level of the library, outside of Archives and Special Collections, during regular library hours. There is no charge for this event.
“Mingling of Memory and Desire” is one of many events this fall that is part of “The Malahat at Forty: A Celebration of Robin Skelton,” which marks the tenth anniversary of Skelton’s passing and the fortieth anniversary of The Malahat Review, the literary journal which Skelton helped create in 1967. Marnie Swanson, University Librarian, sends the following message:
We had an overwhelming response to our contest for naming the Libraries new cafe. Thank you to everyone that submitted their creative suggestions.
I am pleased to announce that a winning name has been chosen for the new McPherson Library café. The next step in the naming of the cafe is for our selected name to be approved by the University’s Naming Committee. The committee will not be meeting until later in the fall, so stay tuned for an announcement in early October!

Interlibrary Loan just got better! New Interlibrary Loan requesting form.
On Sept. 4, 2007 we are introducing a new Interlibrary Loan requesting form. On this form you will be able to request books (including theses and conference proceedings) and articles and also view all your requests. You can also edit your patron profile. The form is intuitive and easy to use. Now your request will go directly to our Relais ILL management system (no deciding which library supplier to choose) and automatically create a list of available suppliers and send the request immediately.
This should result in faster and more efficient service.
Two changes to note: Patrons will need to enter their library barcode and surname at the beginning of the process for each request and patrons will be given a PAT number to indicate a successful request was made. Patrons will also be notified when the item is available for pickup at the Library.
New Mail to office service. If you are faculty, staff or a grad student with a Dept. address, you can request articles (sorry we can’t deliver books) to be delivered to your campus Dept. To do this choose Mail to Office as the Delivery Method and enter your Dept. in the Delivery Address field. There will be no email notification, the article will simply be delivered to your Dept via Campus Mail.
