UVic Libraries is pleased to announce the appointment of Justin Harrison as our newest Information Services Librarian. Justin's responsibilities include reference and instruction, collection development and faculty liaison for Geography, Political Science, and Social Work. Justin worked at the University of Guelph Library before joining UVic Libraries. He has his MLIS from the University of Western Ontario and a BA in History from Simon Fraser University. Justin began his new appointment July 1, 2007.
UVic Libraries is pleased to announce the appointment of Lynne Serviss as our newest Information Services Librarian. Lynne's responsibilities include reference and instruction, collections development and faculty liaison for Anthropology, Psychology, Sociology, and the Shastri programme. Lynne has been in this role on contract for the past year, and prior to joining UVic she worked at Seneca College Library in Toronto. Lynne has her MLIS from the University of British Columbia and a BA (Hons.) in Anthropolgy from Trent University. Lynne began her new appointment November 1, 2006.
UVic Libraries is pleased to announce the appointment of a Faculty and Student Services Librarian in the Priestly Law Library. Michael Lines will be joining UVic from the Canadian Forum on Civil Justice at the University of Alberta, where he has been the Law Librarian and Information Coordinator since 2002. Michael has an MIS and an MA (Medieval History) both from the University of Toronto, and a BA (Hon. Classical Studies) from Concordia.
He will be starting with UVic Libraries on December 15, 2006.
Pia Russell has been appointed Information Literacy Librarian beginning September 18, 2006 and is located in the McPherson Library. As Information Literacy Librarian Ms. Russell will provide leadership in developing instruction and information literacy programs in collaboration with faculty and subject librarians.
Ms. Russell earned her Master of Information Studies degree from The University of Toronto in 2004, and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (with a concentration in Canadian Literature, History and Political Science) from The University of British Columbia and The University of Copenhagen. Ms. Russell is currently completing a Master of Education degree from The Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at The University of Toronto.
Kathryn Paul and Adrian Fletcher, co-leaders of WRAP (Web Redesign & Portal Project), are pleased to announce that Rebecca Raworth has joined the WRAP team, to replace Kristin Hoffman.
Rebecca was an active member of the Fraser Health Authority's Web Committee, has taken credit web design courses at BCIT, and has extensive experience in editing. We look forward to working with Rebecca's creative ideas, enthusiasm, and expertise in editing.

Lynne Serviss has been appointed to a 12-month position as Information Services Librarian – Anthropology, Psychology, Sociology. Lynne earned her Master of Library and Information Studies degree from UBC in 2004, and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology (Honours) from Trent University. She will begin her appointment August 29th and will be located in the McPherson Library.
Donna Signori, Head of Collections and Preservation Services, is taking early retirement after 28 years with the UVic Libraries. Her last working day was Thursday, March 31.
Donna received her MLS from the University of Toronto in 1975 and began her career at UVic on April 1, 1977 as a General Librarian in the Collections Division. She was appointed Acting Division Head in June 1990 and became Head, Collections Management Services, in 1992.
Donna has played a significant leadership role in a number of areas throughout the Libraries. Her most notable contributions include development of the McPherson Library collection during a time of fiscal restraint, coupled with significant graduate program growth; streamlining a variety of collections related processes and procedures including preservation and disaster recovery; implementing the liaison librarian model; initiating digitization projects including electronic theses and dissertations; and enhancing the Library’s relationship with faculty members. Throughout her career Donna has been a quintessential Collections Librarian who will be sincerely missed by all her colleagues.
Joanne Henning will be Acting Head of Collections & Preservation Services until a decision has been made regarding how to fill the void left by Donna’s retirement.
UVic Libraries is pleased to announce that Rebecca Raworth has been appointed to the position of Information Services Librarian—Medical Sciences. Rebecca received her MLIS from UBC in 1990. She has six years experience as a medical librarian with the Fraser Valley Health Authority, in addition to eight years of librarianship at University College of the Fraser Valley, Kwantlen University College, and the Vancouver Courthouse Library. Rebecca’s appointment begins November 29. Her office is located in the McPherson Library.
Ophelia Ma has been appointed to the position of Information Services Librarian - Biology, Earth and Ocean Sciences and Environmental Studies. Ophelia received her MLIS from UBC earlier this year, following completion of a Bachelor of Science degree in Oceanography (major) and English Literature (minor). She will begin September 1 and will be located in the McPherson Library.
UVic Libraries are pleased to announce to appointment of Shailoo Bedi to the position of Head, Access and Branch Services.
Shailoo joins UVic from Royal Roads University where she is the Associate University Librarian, a position she has held since 1998. She obtained her MLIS from UBC and holds an MA in History in Art, and a BA in Classics and History in Art from UVic. She is currently completing a Certificate in Conflict Resolution from the Justice Institute of
British Columbia.
Shailoo begins her appointment July 5, 2004 and will be located in the McPherson Library.
UVic Libraries are pleased to announce the appointment of Serena Abelson to the position of Assistant Law Librarian. She previously held the term position of Assistant Law Librarian: Akitsiraq Law School.
Prior to joining the University of Victoria, Serena worked at the BC Legislative Library, the Greater Victoria Public Library, McGill University, and the Reference Desk in McPherson Library. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Victoria and a Master of Library and Information Science degree from McGill University. She began this appointment February 1.
Serena is located in the Priestly Law Library.
UVic Libraires are pleased to announce the appointment of Kristin Hoffmann to the position of Information Services Librarian: Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Physics and Astronomy.
Kristin earned her Master of Library Science degree from the University of Western Ontario, and holds a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Engineering Physics, specialization in Oceanography, from U.B.C. She began her appointment February 16.
Kristin in located in the McPherson Library.
